System Rollout
The rollout of the Total Access PATH Payment (TAPP) system is complete.
You can purchase a TAPP Card online or at TAPP Vending Machines in PATH stations.
We have completed all phases of our four-phase rollout of the Total Access PATH Payment (TAPP) system.
Phase 1 - Launch of Total Access PATH Payment (TAPP) Open Payment Pilot |

December 2023 |
| PATH introduced its first TAPP turnstiles at Journal Square and 33rd Street stations, marking the beginning of the transition to the new fare payment system. |
Phase 2 – Expansion of TAPP Open Payment Pilot |

| PATH expanded TAPP to all stations. Customers with qualifying disabilities also became eligible to apply for the TAPP Reduced Fare Program. |
Phase 3 – Launch of TAPP Card and TAPP Vending Machines |

PATH introduced the TAPP Card and TAPP Vending Machines, providing customers with additional ways to pay their fares. TAPP Cards are available for purchase online and at participating PATH stations. Customers who purchase and register a TAPP Card by October 31, 2026, are eligible for a $5 travel credit. |
Phase 4 - Ending the acceptance of MetroCard and SmartLink |

PATH ended acceptance of MetroCard and SmartLink on August 31, 2026, completing the transition to TAPP. MetroCard and SmartLink can no longer be used to pay PATH fares. |
